During the process of casting/pouring Ca-Si (e.g. Ca-Si / Calcium-Silicon Alloys), slag is being gathered on the bottom and around the perimeter of the ladle. Since hardened slag is very difficult to remove from the ladle, usually lining of the ladle should be restored after few cycles of pouring/casting (4-6 cycles).
In principle LCM is not working as regular drilling machine, since the drilling-cutting head actually scrapes the slag from the bottom and from the perimeter of the ladle. The spiral, which serves as screw conveyor, is positioned right behind the cutting head to clean the material from the ladle.

Due to very hard working conditions (very high temperature) cutting head and the spiral could get used very quickly. To solve the issue, cutting head was designed in a way to simply and cost-effectively modify or replace knives (scrapers). Life span of screwing conveyor is around 6 (12) months.
